Beer Screening Kit Detects Wide Range of Spoilage Organisms

A new beer screening kit now provides a complete package for the detection of the most relevant beer spoilage organisms in just one test.

The kit previously included detection of Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, Pectinatus, and Megasphaera as well as identification of L. brevis, L. lindneri, Pedicoccus damnosus, Pedicoccus inopinatus, and M. cerevisiae. The following organisms: L. rossiae, Pectinatus haikarae, M. paucivorans, M. sueciensis, and L. backii, have been added to the range of spoilage organisms detected.

The ease of use and high performance as well as the easy to interpret results make it possible to accomplish the complete assay without specific training. With clear reductions in cost per test and time to result, customers (e.g. Bitburger and Veltins) have been able to optimize their brewing process from production to delivery.

Now adapted for use on the LightCycler 480, the kit is available for an even wider range of customers. It is a product of Biotecon Diagnostics (Potsdam, Germany), a company that focuses on the development and marketing of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) detection systems.
